Booklet and brochure printing for business communications
Printed booklets bring related information together in a professional format that is easier to read and retain than a collection of loose sheets. Our saddle-stitched brochures are printed in full colour, collated, folded and secured with two wire staples through the spine.
Choose the finished size around how the publication will be used. A5 is compact and economical for handouts and posting, A4 gives reports and product imagery more space, and square booklets offer a distinctive design-led presentation. Paper choices for the inner pages can be paired with a heavier cover, with lamination available where extra protection or a premium finish is required.
Suitable business uses
- Product catalogues and service brochures
- Event programmes, menus and visitor guides
- Training notes, manuals and company reports
- Property, education and membership publications
Saddle-stitched booklets require a total page count in multiples of four. Keep important content clear of the fold and trim, and use the supplied artwork template for the selected size. We print booklets and brochures in Edinburgh for businesses throughout the Central Belt, with tracked UK-wide delivery available. If the page count is too high for stapling, ask about softback perfect binding instead.
Pick a size to match your content (all link to their dedicated pages for full details):

-
Quick picker (what to choose)
-
Silk (coated, low-sheen): best all-rounder for images + text.
-
Gloss (coated, high-sheen): maximum punch for photography.
-
Uncoated (matte, writable): natural feel; best for text-heavy booklets.
-
Recycled uncoated (e.g., Nautilus): eco choice; modern, premium matte look.
Inners (inside pages)
Silk (130 / 150 / 170 gsm)
Look/feel: Smooth, low-glare sheen; colours look rich without being shiny.
Best for: Catalogues, brochures, lookbooks where images and small text share the page.
Pros:-
Excellent ink/toner hold → crisp type, controlled dot gain
-
Hides fingerprints better than gloss
-
Good opacity at 150–170 gsm (less show-through)
Consider: -
Slightly less “pop” than gloss on ultra-saturated photos
-
Heavier grammages increase creep—watch high page counts
Recommended page ranges: -
130 gsm: up to ~56 pages
-
150 gsm: up to ~48 pages
-
170 gsm: up to ~40 pages
Gloss (130 / 150 / 170 gsm)
Look/feel: Shiny, high contrast; photos “jump” off the page.
Best for: Photo-led brochures, menus with strong imagery, portfolios.
Pros:-
Maximum colour saturation and perceived sharpness
-
Whites appear bright; deep blacks look “inky”
Consider: -
Shows fingerprints/glare under bright light
-
Can be harder to write on
Recommended page ranges: similar to Silk; prefer 130–150 gsm for thicker books.
Uncoated (80 / 100 / 120 gsm)
Look/feel: True matte, tactile “paper” feel; easy to write on.
Best for: Manuals, programmes, text-heavy brochures, forms or booklets with notes.
Pros:-
Natural reading experience, no glare
-
Takes pencil/pen/marker well
-
Lighter weights (80/100 gsm) keep thicker books manageable
Consider: -
Colours print softer (higher dot gain) vs coated stocks
-
Slightly more show-through at 80–100 gsm with heavy solids
Recommended page ranges: -
80 gsm: up to ~64 pages (great for long manuals)
-
100–120 gsm: up to ~60 pages (balanced heft/opacity)
Recycled Uncoated (e.g., Nautilus 100–120 gsm)
Look/feel: Premium matte with subtle texture; modern eco aesthetic.
Best for: Sustainability-led brands, menus, guides, programmes.
Pros:-
100% recycled content available
-
Prints cleaner than older recycled stocks; good legibility
Consider: -
Slightly warmer base tint can shift colour (we compensate in pre-press)
-
Like standard uncoated, colours are less glossy/saturated
Recommended page ranges: 100–120 gsm up to ~56–60 pages.
Covers
Self-cover (same as inners)
Why choose it: Keeps unit cost, weight, and spine bulk down—great for programmes and handouts.
When to avoid: High-handling items (menus, lookbooks) that need scuff resistance.Heavier cover (200 / 250 / 300 gsm)
Why choose it: Adds rigidity and a premium feel; protects inners.
Add lamination (Matt, Gloss, Soft-touch) for durability and cleanable surface.
Tips:-
Matt lam = understated, professional
-
Gloss lam = extra shine + colour pop on photo covers
-
Soft-touch = velvet feel; pair with spot UV/foil for contrast
-
Crease covers ≥200 gsm before folding to prevent cracking (we do this as standard)
Popular, safe specs (ready presets)
-
Good (value): 130 gsm Silk throughout (self-cover)
-
Better (premium feel): 150 gsm Silk inners + 250 gsm Matt-lam cover
-
Best (showpiece): 170 gsm Silk inners + 300 gsm Soft-touch cover (+ SquareFold)
Text-heavy/eco: 100 gsm Nautilus recycled inners + 250 gsm uncoated cover (Matt lam optional).
Photo-led: 150 gsm Gloss inners + 300 gsm Gloss-lam cover. -
For a tidy staple and flat lay, we recommend:
-
Silk/Gloss 130–150 gsm inners: up to ~48–56 pages
-
Uncoated 100–120 gsm inners: up to ~64 pages
-
Above these, we’ll advise if perfect binding suits your spec better.
We automatically apply creep compensation on thicker booklets.
